Directional distance function DEA estimators for evaluating efficiency gains from possible mergers and acquisitions

چکیده

A modified generalised directional distance function data envelopment analysis model is introduced into the smoothed bootstrap context. The new handles asymmetrically desirable and undesirable outputs deals with positive negative values, while bias-corrected estimators are independent of length direction vector. reason for development this efficiency assessment estimation degree operating gains from possible mergers acquisitions (M&A) between banks. Our estimations regarded as more realistic compared to those found in extant literature, they consider not only but also variables values that crucial evaluation firm performance. applicable banking sector any industry. We use two samples, one consisting 86 conventional a second 21 Islamic Among findings study convergence banks’ efficiencies over period 2014–2016. Moreover, consolidations efficient inefficient banks lead higher efficiency, M&A or likely be undesirable.

Efficiency gains from mergers

Efficiency Gains from Mergers by Lars-Hendrik Röller, Johan Stennek and Frank Verboven The purpose of this discussion paper is to contribute to the analysis of two questions. Should a merger control system take into account efficiency gains from horizontal mergers, and balance these gains against the anti-competitive effects of mergers? If so, how should a system be designed to account for effi...

Efficiency Gains and Mergers

In the theoretical literature, strong arguments have been provided in support of the efficiency defense in antitrust merger policy. One of the most often cited results is due to Williamson (1968) that shows how relatively small reduction in cost could offset the deadweight loss of a large price increase. Furthermore, Salant et al. (1983) demonstrate that (not for monopoly) mergers are unprofita...

Partial-Order Planning: Evaluating Possible Efficiency Gains

Although most people believe that planners that delay step-ordering decisions as long as possible are more e cient than those that manipulate totally ordered sequences of actions, this intuition has received little formal justi cation or empirical validation. In this paper we do both, characterizing the types of domains that o er performance di erentiation and the features that distinguish the ...

Evaluating Mergers and Acquisitions: A Belief Function Approach

Studies indicate that mergers and acquisitions are characterized by a high failure rate, often attributed to an inability on the part of the acquiring firm management to effectively evaluate potential acquisition candidates. This is not surprising given the considerable uncertainties surrounding both the relationships among factors in the evaluation process and also in the assessment of evidenc...

A generalized multiplicative directional distance function for efficiency measurement in DEA

For measuring technical efficiency relative to a log-linear technology, a generalized multiplicative directional distance function (GMDDF) is developed using the framework of multiplicative directional distance function (MDDF). Furthermore, a computational procedure is suggested for its estimation. The GMDDF serves as a comprehensive measure of efficiency in revealing Pareto-efficient targets a...
